Gyor is very near to the borders of Slovakia and Austria. Up until a few years ago, there were very strict border control laws in effect, but now it is almost non-existent, dramatically changing the lives of the locals. There is a choice of airports to fly into if you are visiting Győr from Budapest and Vienna, both of which are about 2 hours away, with Bratislava being around 70 – 80 minutes away. Although Bratislava is nearer, the other two airports of Vienna and Budapest can offer better deals for flight fares.

Győr is full of places to see and the reliquary of king Ladislaus I. is one of them. The first reliquary was built for the canonization ceremony of king Ladislaus I. but an unfortunate fire destroyed it. A new one was made at the end of the 14th century and is kept in the Basicila of Győr.
One of the many museums is the Zichy Palace in the centre of the city, this museum is well known for its doll exhibitions that has 72 artifacts of furniture and dolls from the 19th century. |
