Szolnok

Szolnok is well situated on the banks of the River Tisza. It is also in the heart of The Great Hungarian Plains and it has been a crossroad of great importance both culturally economically for many years. 100 km east-southeast of Budapest, the weather here is that of a continental city. With beautiful summers and mild winters, this is a perfect getaway for a peaceful holiday.

The most important place in Szolnok of historical relevance is the Baroque Franciscan Church. The church was built between 1724 and 1757 by the Italian Corlone who designed the church as well as other churches in Eger. There is also a monastery attached to the church which was built between 1723 and 1750. Both of these buildings are the oldest buildings in Szolnok.

Another place to see is the Museum of Aviation. Originally it was used in 1973 as a private collection of aircraft by Kilián György Flight Technical College. This is an open air museum and can be visited by anyone who wishes to go see it. There are many types of aircraft here ranging from war planes to small personal carriers and all are very well kept and look as good as new.
