You could spend a day just walking around and looking at the buildings as you stroll through the beautifully relaxing streets of the city day or night, one place that is highly recommended is Savaria Museum. There are almost half a million antiques and pieces of art to be seen here at the museum. You will see plenty of exhibitions here including one that is dedicated to the Romanesque church at Ják.
The town square has been a market place for centuries, which is where it gets its name. Szombathely actually means Saturday place. Another place that can be visited is the Garden of Ruins; this is full of some of the most important ruins from the Romans in Hungary. There are Savaria relics here that were excavated way back since 1938. Roman road markers, mosaic plants and designs from St Quirinus Basilica on the floor make this a popular tourist attraction. |
